What to Expect

My core counselling training was humanistic with a focus on Person centred counselling. Over the years I have developed a more integrative way of working where the main goal is to tailor my approach to suit my clients and their issues, individual needs and preferences.

I am comfortable working in a person centred way where the sessions are guided mainly by you but I am equally happy to adopt a more directive or solution focussed approach if you feel that would suit you better. I am naturally drawn to humanistic theories such as Transactional Analysis and Gestalt therapy but you will also find me using Cognitive Behavioural therapy, Attachment theory and elements of Psychodynamic theory if I believe that’s what’s most needed. Regardless of the approach you will always find the therapeutic relationship at the centre of my counselling practise as I believe that’s the foundation for all the work we do.

I aim to be an warm, approachable and caring counsellor. I understand that it can be daunting to seek counselling and that the process of finding a counsellor and coming for a first session can be challenging. It is normal to feel apprehensive or nervous and to have a lot of questions. Maybe you’re not sure if counselling is for you? It is common to worry that your problems aren’t serious enough to seek professional help. If this sounds like you then perhaps booking a free 15 min introductory call would be helpful.

I offer counselling for a variety of issues such as stress, anxiety, low mood, depression, suicidal thoughts, self harm, relationship issues, bereavement, school or workplace bullying, health problems just to mention a few. I also have experience working with trauma, post traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, addiction, anger management, bipolar disorder as well as different forms of abuse.

If you would like to book a session you can get in touch by sending me an email, or by calling and leaving a message. The next step would be to find a day and time when we are both free to meet for a first session. During the first meeting we will discuss your reasons for seeking counselling, your expectations and I will answer any questions you may have. This is an opportunity for me to explain how I work and for both of us to see if I am the right counsellor for you. There is no pressure at this point to sign up for a number of sessions. You can book in for the following week or go home and think about it.
